Edify Energy solar-storage project approved by Australian government

The Australian federal government has granted approval for Edify Energy’s Smoky Creek Solar Power Station, a solar and storage project located in Central Queensland, 75 kilometres south of Rockhampton and 40 kilometres north of Biloela.

The project will be located on a 1,800-hectare site of cleared land.  Once complete it could generate up to 1,194,000 MWh of renewable energy per year.

It will feed into the Powerlink Queensland (PLQ) Calvale to Stanwell 275kV transmission lines, providing green, clean power to over 206,000 homes.  At peak construction, the station will employ around 350 people, predominately from local contractors.

The Australian Minister for the Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek, said: “Australia can be a renewable energy superpower, and projects like this help us get there. We have the right conditions, the technology, and the passion to make the most of these opportunities. It will help transform our economy and better protect our environment.“We know renewable energy is cheaper, cleaner and crucial to helping us cut emissions and reach our goal of net zero by 2050.”
