EU backs €1.2bn renewable hydrogen projects

The European Union has awarded €1.2bn support for 13 hydrogen-related projects in a €3.6bn investment round from its Innovation Fund.

The EU is using the fund to accelerate the decarbonisation of a wide range of industries. That €1.2bn includes six projects focused on renewable hydrogen production, and seven focused on increasing hydrogen use in sectors including chemical manufacturing, oil refining and steel production.

The winners are located in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

In addition, the Innovation Fund backed four electrolyser manufacturing projects.
