Gravitricity & IEA to partner on US storage funding

UK energy storage specialist Gravitricity is to partner with Illinois infrastructure conglomerate IEA Infrastructure Construction to jointly seek funds for US renewable energy schemes, including those at disused mines.

Gravitricity is developing below ground gravity energy storage systems in the UK and mainland Europe.

The link-up between the two companies comes after US president Joe Biden announced earlier this month that $450 million would be made available for clean energy projects at the site of current or former coal mines.

Gravitricity is already advancing proposals for a mine project in the Czech Republic, where the plan is to store energy by lowering and raising a single massive weight suspended in a former mine in Darkov.
