GWEC: 380GW offshore wind to be built by 2032

New offshore wind farms totalling 380GW are set to be installed globally by 2032, the Global Wind Energy Council has forecast in research published this week.

GWEC said in its Global Offshore Wind Report, which came out yesterday, that almost half of this new capacity would be built in the Asia-Pacific region outside China, including an estimated 50GW in Australia.

However, GWEC added that "inadequate policy frameworks" and "too timid approaches" by governments were putting this potential at risk; and has downgraded its short-term forecasts for Europe and North America because of permitting issues, regulatory issues and supply chain bottlenecks.
