Ireland backs 3.1GW offshore quartet

The Irish Government has awarded support contracts to four offshore wind projects totalling 3.1GW by companies including EDF Renewables, RWE and Statkraft.

Irish transmission operator Eirgrid has today announced the results of Ireland's ORESS-1 auction, and the winning projects have been awarded support under a Contracts for Difference-style contract at an average price of €86.05/MWh. The winners are:

  • Codling (1.3GW) by EDF Renewables and Fred Olsen Seawind
  • Dublin Array (824MW) by RWE
  • North Irish Sea Array (500MW) by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Statkraft
  • Sceirde Rocks (450MW) by Corio Generation

The 800MW Arklow Bank project by SSE Renewables and the 330MW Oriel project by ESB and Parkwind were unsuccessful.
