Kimberly-Clark to make green fuel swap
UK consumer goods firm Kimberly-Clark is working with Octopus Energy and RES Group to replace gas with green hydrogen at two factories in the UK.
RES and Octopus joint venture HYRO is developing on-site electrolysers that will be able to produce green hydrogen at two factories where Kimberly-Clark makes products under brands including Andrex, Huggies and Kleenex. The electrolysers will be powered by wind and solar, and the hydrogen they create will be used to power hydrogen-ready boilers that will replace natural-gas-fuelled alternatives.
Oriol Margo, EMEA sustainability leader atKimberly-Clark, said: “These developments represent a huge step towards our ambition to move solely to renewable energy to manufacture Andrex, Kleenex, Huggies, WypAll and Scott in the UK by 2030.”
