As energy storage becomes increasingly recognised by investors as an asset class in its own right, law firms are looking to establish themselves as experts in this rapidly emerging sector. Accordingly, a number of firms are developing a track-record as specialists in the field.

That’s the view of Bob Psaradellis, CEO of pan-European renewable energy investment platform Renewable Power Capital, which entered into a joint venture with UK battery storage company Eelpower last month.

Some of the biggest asset management firms in the world have recently made some notable acquisitions in the energy storage sector. Blackrock, KKR and Carlyle are among the heavy-hitters who have added storage assets to their portfolio. The deals have highlighted the broad appeal of all types of storage, whether that be massive industrial assets or smaller community-based storage portfolios.
